Yemen Human Rights Commission labels Taiz airstrikes war crimes

The National Human Rights Commission of Yemen has condemned airstrikes in the Taiz governorate, labeling them war crimes and crimes against humanity. According to the Commission, Saudi-led airstrikes targeted residential areas and civilian gatherings in the Dhubab and Maqbanah districts, resulting in the deaths of three civilians, including two children, and leaving two others injured.

Additionally, the Commission reported that a government complex in the Khadir district was directly targeted. This strike resulted in injuries to civilian employees and citizens, while destroying the building and its public service documents. The Commission stated that these actions violate the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law, specifically the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution.

The Commission characterized these strikes as part of a systematic policy to target state institutions and civilian infrastructure rather than accidental incidents. It has called upon the United Nations, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Human Rights Council to form an independent and neutral international investigation committee to probe these incidents.
