Yemen Issues Heat, Flood and Sea Disturbance Warnings

Yemen's National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning forecast extremely hot conditions on 8 August 2026, with daytime temperatures reaching 40‑45 °C in many coastal and desert areas. The agency warned of scattered thunderstorms, hail and flash‑flood risk in mountain valleys and low‑lying wadis, urging residents to avoid flood‑prone routes and to stay out of bridges during sudden water flows.

Strong to very strong winds of 25‑50 knots are expected around the Socotra Archipelago, the Gulf of Aden and the eastern and southern coasts, creating sea‑state disturbances and higher waves. Fishermen, ship crews and beach‑goers were cautioned about the rough seas and advised to remain in safe harbours. The forecast also highlighted hot, humid conditions along the coast, recommending ample water intake and limited exposure to direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
