Yemen leader Adel al-Hasani criticizes Presidential Leadership Council

Adel al-Hasani, leader of the Peace Forum to Stop the War in Yemen, has issued a sharp critique of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and the current political administration. In a recent article, al-Hasani argued that the Yemeni people have endured continuous suffering due to war and a comprehensive blockade since March 2015, which has effectively turned the country into a “large prison” controlled from abroad.

Al-Hasani specifically criticized President Rashad al-Alimi and his government, suggesting that the leadership has become overly dependent on foreign support and is more focused on the interests of its financiers than the needs of the Yemeni people. He noted a stark contrast between the ruling officials, whose families reside in international capitals, and the Yemeni youth who continue to die on the front lines.

Furthermore, al-Hasani questioned the effectiveness of the so-called “legitimate authorities,” pointing to their failure to manage smaller liberated areas like Aden, Hadramaut, and Al-Mahrah despite significant international backing. He called for prioritizing the alleviation of civilian suffering over continued military conflict and the destruction of national infrastructure.
