Yemen military escalation displaces 2,398 families in Taiz and Lahj

Yemeni authorities reported that 2,398 families were displaced in a single day due to recent military escalation. The displacement, recorded on September 10, included 823 families in Taiz Governorate and 1,575 families in Lahj Governorate.

This surge brings the total number of documented displaced families to 9,746, up from 7,348 recorded on September 9. The primary sources of displacement are areas affected by field developments in Taiz, Al Hudaydah, and the West Coast, including districts such as Jabal Habashi, Al Ma'afir, Maqbanah, Al Wazi'iyah, Mawza, Mocha, Hays, and Al Khawkha.

The Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management is working to verify data and assess needs. In Lahj's Al Mudaraiba district, schools have been opened to shelter displaced families, while some are being hosted by local community members.

Urgent humanitarian needs include shelter, food, life-saving assistance, hygiene kits, and clean drinking water. The Executive Unit has held coordination meetings with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to discuss aid and has called on international organizations and donors to accelerate resource mobilization to meet the growing demands.
