Yemen approves general mobilization against Houthi forces
The Yemen House of Representatives has officially approved a request for general mobilization to combat the advancing Houthi forces. The proposal, initiated by President Rashad al Alimi, seeks to call all citizens of military age to serve in the Armed Forces to defend the republic and restore state institutions.
The decision follows a significant escalation in hostilities, particularly as Houthi forces have captured the coastline connecting Yemen to the Red Sea. Intense fighting has been reported in strategic areas including Taiz, Lahij, and near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
In recent military operations, the Yemeni army reported conducting 756 attacks over a three-day period, resulting in the deaths or injuries of approximately 2,316 Houthi fighters, including four Iranian experts. The House of Representatives emphasized that this mobilization will be conducted in full coordination with the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to protect Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
