Yemen Presidential Leadership Council seeks to end Houthi threat
Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, has affirmed the capability of the Yemeni armed forces to regain the initiative and end the threat posed by Houthi militias. During a meeting with the British Ambassador, Alimi emphasized that international support for the Yemeni government is essential for sustainable security and for countering Houthi actions supported by Iran.
Alimi highlighted that the military has demonstrated high efficiency in transitioning from containing terrorist attacks to establishing deterrence, particularly following developments on the West Coast. He warned against the policy of containment, stating that de-escalation without preventing rearmament only leads to further cycles of violence.
In connection with the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Yemeni delegation is working to convey the nation's aspirations to restore state institutions and end the Houthi coup. Diplomatic efforts are focused on securing international support to combat Houthi funding, arms smuggling, and Iranian military technology transfers. Alimi noted that the Houthi threat to the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait impacts global trade, energy, and international security, necessitating more effective enforcement of arms embargos.
