Yemen receives aid for over 7 million vulnerable people amid ongoing humanitarian crisis

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that more than 7.3 million Yemenis received life‑saving assistance between January and May 2026, including food, water, sanitation, health care and nutrition support. Aid was delivered by 123 partner organisations, reaching an average of 1.5 million people each month.

The country remains in a severe humanitarian emergency. The ongoing civil war has produced roughly 4.5 million internally displaced persons and a dangerous migration corridor for thousands of Sub‑Saharan migrants, many of whom are children, pregnant women and the elderly. Funding shortfalls threaten the response: by the end of May only 12.8 percent of the $2.16 billion needed for the 2026 Humanitarian Response Plan had been secured, leaving essential services at risk.

International agencies such as UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration continue to operate water, sanitation, health and protection programmes, but sustained funding is required to prevent further deterioration of conditions for the vulnerable population.
