Yemen receives Saudi diplomatic backing as southern clashes kill two

Yemeni ambassador to Saudi Arabia Salem bin Bureik told Saudi daily ‘Okaz’ that Riyadh is a strategic partner in ending the Houthi‑backed coup and restoring Yemen’s state institutions. He highlighted Saudi political, military, humanitarian and economic support and pledged deeper cooperation to rebuild the country and counter Iranian influence.

At the same time, security incidents in the southern governorates of Hadramout, Abyan and Lahj left one civilian and one National Security Forces officer dead and 18 people injured. The clashes involved family feuds, targeted assassinations and gunfire in markets, underscoring the persistence of armed violence in the south despite diplomatic efforts.

The statements and the violence illustrate the intertwined diplomatic and security dimensions of Yemen’s ongoing conflict.
