Yemen requests naval support to counter maritime threats
The Yemeni government has formally requested operational and technical support to bolster its naval forces during a meeting of the Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition (MMDC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Led by Rear Admiral Abdulkhaliq Mansar, the Yemeni delegation emphasized the urgent need to restore the readiness of the Yemeni Navy to protect territorial waters and secure vital international shipping lanes.
Mansar highlighted that ongoing threats from Houthi forces in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden directly jeopardize international navigation, global trade, and supply chains. He called for increased regional and international coordination to build a deterrent response against these maritime risks.
The request comes as the coalition transitions from its foundational stage toward active operational implementation. The goal of the requested support is to provide the equipment and technical capabilities necessary for the Yemeni Navy to participate effectively in multinational efforts to secure maritime corridors.
