Yemen seeks Chinese and Russian backing over Iranian flight as southern leaders plan new conference
President Rashad Al‑Alami of Yemen met with the Chinese ambassador Chu Cheng and the Russian ambassador Fyeginy Kodrov to discuss bilateral ties and the government’s claim that an Iranian‑operated flight to Sanaa airport violated Yemeni sovereignty. The talks emphasized Yemen’s reliance on the support of permanent UN Security Council members ahead of an emergency council session to address the incident.
Separately, Fuad Rashid, head of the Southern Movement, held a Zoom meeting with UN envoy Masaki Otnabi and discussed the latest developments in the southern dialogue and the preparation of a South Yemen conference under Saudi Arabian sponsorship. He also outlined the formation of a Hadhramaut coordination council, noting its significance for regional governance and the upcoming work of its preparatory committee.
