Yemen sees over 3 million displaced people and rising hunger amid worsening crisis

A United Nations assessment found that more than 3 million Yemenis are internally displaced within government‑held areas, with about 60 % (1.87 million) residing in Marib governorate. Taiz hosts roughly 14 % of the displaced and Aden about 8 %. The International Organization for Migration documented 4.8 hundred thousand families across 12 governorates living in temporary shelters or rented housing.

A World Food Programme report warned that two‑thirds of IDPs now face alarming hunger levels. About 38 % of displaced people suffered moderate to severe hunger at the end of 2025, and severe food insecurity affected 40 % of IDPs nationwide and 48 % of those in camps. Seventeen percent of IDP families said a member went a full day and night without food, while many resorted to reducing meals or begging, especially in camp settings. Declining humanitarian funding threatens to deepen the crisis.
