GCC Ministerial Council calls for Houthi terrorist designation

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council, meeting in Manama, Bahrain, has called for the international community to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. The Council expressed strong condemnation of ongoing Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, including strikes near the Two Holy Mosques and at civil airports, which have resulted in civilian casualties.

In its final statement, the GCC emphasized the indivisibility of member states' security, asserting that an attack on one member is an attack on all, in accordance with the Joint Defense Agreement and Article 51 of the UN Charter. The Council urged the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 2216 (2015) and 2722 (2024), specifically calling for a strict enforcement of the arms embargo against the Houthis to prevent the acquisition of missiles and drones.

The Council also reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen, advocating for a political solution based on the three recognized references: the GCC Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Additionally, the GCC condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks on GCC countries and Jordan, and called for renewed diplomacy to resolve the crisis between the United States and Iran while ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Red Sea.
