Yemen weather forecast predicts thunderstorms and high heat
Meteorological authorities in Yemen have issued weather forecasts for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, predicting varied conditions across the country's different terrains.
Coastal areas are expected to remain hot and humid, with scattered rainfall possible in eastern and western coastal regions and the Socotra Archipelago. High winds, ranging between 25 and 50 knots, are anticipated around Socotra, the Gulf of Aden, and southern coasts. In desert and plateau regions, temperatures are expected to reach between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius, with potential thunderstorms in Al Mahrah, Hadramaut, Shabwah, Marib, and Al Jawf.
Mountainous highlands are forecasted to experience partly cloudy skies with a risk of heavy thunderstorms and hail. These conditions may affect regions including Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah, Hadramaut, and Al Mahrah. Fog is also expected to reduce visibility on mountain roads during the evening.
Authorities have issued warnings regarding sudden flash floods in valleys and wadis, advising citizens to avoid crossing bridges during heavy rain. Residents in coastal and desert areas are cautioned against direct sun exposure during midday, while those in mountainous areas are advised to stay away from high ground and metal structures during thunderstorms.
