Yemen military intensifies operations against Houthi forces

Yemen civil war Houthi militia Fajr al-Yemen operation Taiz governorate Marib offensive

Military operations in Yemen have escalated significantly under the “Fajr al-Yemen” offensive. The Yemeni military reported conducting 1,417 targeted operations within a 24-hour period, resulting in the neutralization of approximately 800 Houthi fighters and the destruction or disabling of over 190 military vehicles and combat assets.

Fighting is concentrated across several fronts, including Taiz, Marib, and Lahij. In Taiz, government forces repelled Houthi attacks on the al-Shaqab front and reported heavy losses for the militia. In Marib, troops have made territorial gains in the eastern sector. Meanwhile, Houthi shelling in Taiz reportedly killed eight civilians and injured six others.

The humanitarian situation remains critical. The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 170 Houthi violations across nine governorates in a 48-hour window, including 29 deaths and 36 injuries. The report highlighted the ongoing siege of Taiz, which restricts access to food, medicine, and fuel.

Regionally, the conflict has drawn attention from Egypt, as President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi sought parliamentary authorization to take defensive measures to protect Saudi security, citing the Red Sea as a vital national interest. Additionally, the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting Houthi drones and missiles targeting Saudi territory.
