Yemeni Army thwarts Houthi elite force attack in Taiz
Yemeni national army and popular resistance forces successfully repelled a large-scale assault by Houthi militia forces on the Kahlan front in the Al-Asbour area of the Taiz countryside. The attack was led by the “Al-Ghamari Battalion,” an elite Houthi unit estimated at approximately 800 fighters.
Intelligence gathered from a captured militia member revealed the Houthi plan to launch multi-axis attacks to distract defenders while the elite battalion attempted to flank the front via rugged mountains to advance toward Taiz city. To counter this, military commanders implemented an unconventional tactic involving the use of large, high-powered searchlights collected from local homes. These lights were secretly positioned on strategic mountain peaks overlooking the expected infiltration route.
As the Houthi unit moved through the mountains after midnight, the defenders activated the searchlights simultaneously, causing temporary visual impairment and shock to the advancing fighters. This was followed by intense fire from multiple directions, resulting in significant casualties among the militia forces and disrupting their attempt to seize the front.
