Yemeni diaspora protests in Europe over Taiz siege
Yemeni community members, including academics, human rights activists, and journalists, held a series of protests in Brussels and The Hague to demand an end to the Houthi siege on the city of Taiz.
In Brussels, demonstrators gathered at the European Parliament to urge the European Union to exert diplomatic pressure on Houthi militias to permanently and safely open main roads. They called for the protection of civilians, the investigation of violations, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid, including food, water, and medical supplies. The protesters also highlighted the need to secure international maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
In The Hague, protesters gathered in front of the Peace Palace to demand that the Dutch government and international institutions hold those responsible for Houthi attacks on civilians and medical facilities accountable. The demonstrators emphasized the humanitarian catastrophe in Taiz, citing the deaths of civilians and the obstruction of medical transport, and called for the release of UN employees detained since mid-2024.
