Yemen conflict intensifies with Houthi advances and Saudi airstrikes

Fighting in Yemen has intensified as Houthi rebels and government forces engage in heavy clashes across multiple fronts, particularly in the Taiz and Lahj provinces. Yemeni government forces have reported significant advances, including recapturing strategic positions on Jabal Al-Shuhada in the Al-Waziyah district and repelling Houthi attacks on the Al-Kadaha front.

Simultaneously, the Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of conducting a massive aerial campaign. According to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea, Saudi F-15 and Typhoon jets carried out dozens of airstrikes on Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Marib, contributing to a reported total of 300 strikes across nine provinces within a single week.

The conflict is also impacting maritime security. Houthi control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait poses a threat to global trade, with Italy deploying naval assets to escort merchant vessels. Amidst the regional escalation, an Italian Eurofighter stationed in Saudi Arabia was reportedly hit by a missile in a peripheral area of its base, though no personnel were injured.
