Yemen conflict intensifies as Houthi and government forces clash

Yemen is experiencing a significant escalation in military conflict between Houthi forces and the internationally recognized government. In Taiz province, government forces have regained several strategic positions in the western districts, including areas overlooking Wadi Jardad in Ash Shamaytain and parts of Dhubab. These advances are being supported by airstrikes targeting Houthi gatherings and military vehicles in districts such as Al-Wazi'iyah, Haifan, and Jabal Habashi. One specific strike in Al-Afira reportedly killed at least ten militants and destroyed an ammunition depot.

Simultaneously, Houthi forces have made notable territorial gains along the Red Sea coast and near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. The group has reportedly seized control of the port city of Mocha, several islands including Mayun (Perim) Island, and various districts in Hodeidah and Taiz provinces. This expansion grants the Houthis increased control over vital maritime corridors.

In other regions, government forces are reportedly making progress in Al-Jawf province, moving toward the provincial center of Al-Hazm. The intensified fighting has caused significant civilian disruption, including the temporary closure of vital transit routes between Taiz and Ibb, and the suspension of schooling in several areas due to shelling and security concerns.
