Yemeni government rejects Houthi escalation and threats to regional security

The Yemeni government has issued a strong condemnation of recent military escalations by the Houthi movement, stating it will no longer accept a policy of blackmail or threats. In a statement presented to the UN Security Council by Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, the government emphasized that Yemeni stability is a fundamental guarantee for regional and international security, maritime navigation, and global trade supply chains.

The Yemeni Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shaie al-Zindani, met in Aden to discuss the implications of Houthi attacks on civilian infrastructure, displaced persons camps, and commercial vessels. The government reported that Houthi strikes have targeted locations in Mocha, Marib, Taiz, Hadramaut, and Al-Dhale, as well as civilian assets in Saudi Arabia.

The government criticized the international community for merely managing the consequences of these attacks rather than addressing their sources. It specifically accused Iran of providing the capabilities that enable the Houthi movement to threaten international shipping lanes and regional security. The administration maintained that a sustainable peace requires the restoration of state institutions and ensuring that the state holds a monopoly on the use of force, rejecting any political or religious claims that supersede the rule of law.
