Medina power station targeted by Houthi drone strike

The Saudi-led coalition has accused the Houthi movement of conducting a drone strike on the Taibah electricity distribution station in Medina on Tuesday, September 29, at 5:11 a.m. The facility provides essential power to the Prophet's Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites.

According to Major General Turki al-Maliki, an investigation involving the analysis of drone wreckage confirmed Houthi involvement. The strike damaged one transformer, taking it out of service, though the broader electrical grid remained unaffected. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and several Muslim-majority nations, who viewed the attack as a violation of the sanctity of holy sites.

In a separate development, the Yemeni government has warned the United Nations regarding threats to international civil aviation over the southern Red Sea. Officials claim the Houthis are utilizing Iranian-origin air defense weapons, modified with assistance from Iranian Revolutionary Guard experts, which use thermal tracking systems capable of targeting both military and civilian aircraft. The Houthis have denied responsibility for the Medina strike, labeling the accusations as lies.
