Yemeni Presidential advisor warns against Houthi peace settlements

Badr Mohammed Baslama, an advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council for Local Administration, has issued a warning regarding the current political situation in Yemen. He stated that the country is at a “historic moment” that requires national unity to counter the Houthi militia and restore state institutions.

Baslama argued that over a decade of conflict has proven that relying on peace settlements and temporary truces with the Houthis has failed to produce sustainable peace. He characterized the Houthi group as an entity that is not a genuine partner in state-building and warned that their threat extends beyond Yemen to impact regional security and international maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Furthermore, Baslama cautioned against political or tribal factions, including some southern forces, that might seek immediate gains through individual understandings or appeasement of the Houthis. He described such efforts as an “illusion” that could lead to long-term political and historical setbacks. He called for national forces to unite and leverage regional and international shifts to prevent the Houthis from reorganizing their military and political strength.
