Yemen's Southern Dialogue Gains Momentum with Saudi‑Backed Meetings

In Riyadh, senior Yemeni southern figures met Saudi officials to prepare for an upcoming Southern Yemen dialogue. Engineer Ahmed Maysari, head of the preparatory committee, welcomed a delegation of southern women leaders, stressing their essential role in the political process and urging broader female participation in the forthcoming talks. He argued that stability in the south is crucial for Yemen’s overall stability, linking it to the return of government functions, reopening of oil exports, and countering Houthi influence.

Separately, Abdulrahman Al‑Muharami, a senior presidential council member, held an extensive meeting with the same southern delegation, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s support for the dialogue and the need to create an environment conducive to its success. Both meetings highlight Saudi backing and the emphasis on inclusive, women‑focused negotiations ahead of the planned conference.
