Yemen's foreign minister urges UN action over Houthi missile and drone attacks

Yemen’s Foreign Minister for Expatriates, Dr. Afrah al‑Zouba, met via video link with UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg to discuss the latest Houthi militia escalation. The militia launched ballistic missiles and suicide drones at military camps in Marib and Hadramout, killing 17 soldiers and one officer, wounding others, and causing civilian casualties in Marib camps – two civilians killed and 14 injured. The attacks also reached Saudi Arabia’s Najran region, injuring 11 civilians, and threatened international shipping in the Red Sea, Bab al‑Mandab and the Gulf of Aden.

Al‑Zouba sent a letter to UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Kristina Markuš Lason urging a firm stance, stricter enforcement of sanctions (UN resolutions 2140 and 2216), and measures to block Iranian support and the flow of missiles and drones to the Houthis. She called for UN and international action to prevent further attacks on Yemen, neighboring states and global maritime routes.
