Yemen conflict intensifies with heavy fighting in Taiz and Marib
Fighting in Yemen has intensified across Taiz, Marib, and Lahj as Houthi rebels and government forces engage in heavy clashes. In Taiz, the strategic city faces an escalating siege, with Houthi forces cutting main supply routes to Aden. This conflict has caused significant humanitarian distress, with an estimated 80,000 people fleeing the area. Recent hostilities in the Sabir al-Mawadim district included shelling and sniper fire that killed one woman and wounded five civilians.
In Marib, Brigadier General Ahmed Bahibah al-Muradi was killed during clashes on the southern front. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition reported several successful operations, including airstrikes targeting Houthi weapons-smuggling activities in Hodeidah and the destruction of two ballistic missile launchers in Saada. The coalition also intercepted a ballistic missile launched toward the Saudi port city of Yanbu, along with cruise missiles and drones.
Former Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed warned that the battle for Taiz is critical for Western security, noting that Houthi control of the city could jeopardize access to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
