Yemen's Hadhramaut Governor Forms Upper Coordination Council for Local Forces

On 4 July 2026, Yemen’s Governor of Hadhramaut, Salem Ahmed Al‑Khanbshi, issued Administrative Decision No. 100 (2026) to establish a preparatory committee for a Higher Coordination Council of Hadhramaut’s political, social and cultural forces. The committee will comprise 36 leading figures from the governorate, selected under the 2000 local‑authority law, with the aim of uniting fragmented groups, fostering dialogue and presenting a unified stance on the region’s critical issues.

Sheikh Tarik Salem Al‑Akbari, a member of the preparatory committee, affirmed that the move is a positive step toward reconciling the governorate’s factions and praised the Governor’s initiative and Saudi Arabia’s support for the process. He called for all parties to engage constructively to achieve broader stability in Hadhramaut.
