Yeni Parti gains 232 mayors following mass resignations from CHP

A massive political shift is occurring in Turkey as 232 mayors and numerous local officials resign from the Republican People's Party (CHP) to join the Yeni Parti. According to Yeni Parti Deputy Chairman Yaşar Tüzün, the departures include 109 metropolitan district mayors, 54 provincial district mayors, and 50 town mayors. Tüzün noted that 28 provinces currently have no CHP mayors remaining, specifically naming regions such as Aydın, Bursa, Manisa, and Samsun among those affected.

The scale of the migration is significant, with party officials predicting that the number of defectors will exceed 300 by the end of August. Notable resignations include Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç and Pınarbaşı Mayor Deniz Yağan, the latter of whom cited political uncertainty within the CHP as a primary reason for his move.

In response to the exodus, CHP officials have criticized the moves, with some calling the resignations ethically unacceptable and others stating that leaving the party is equivalent to abandoning the values of the Republic. Meanwhile, Yeni Parti is actively expanding its organizational structure across various provinces, including İzmir and Adana, aiming to establish a new political center.
