Yeni Parti faces leadership crisis and internal divisions

The Yeni Parti is facing significant internal division and leadership challenges. During a critical parliamentary vote regarding the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ bill, party leader Özgür Özel found himself in the minority. While Özel supported the legislation, 54 of his party's members of parliament voted against it, compared to 35 in favor. This voting pattern contradicted previous assertions that members would act based on regional sensitivities, as members from the same cities cast opposing votes.

Beyond parliamentary disagreements, the party is experiencing organizational friction during its nationwide expansion. Reports indicate a power struggle between Özgür Özel’s team and supporters of Ekrem İmamoğlu, particularly in major cities. These factions are reportedly competing to appoint their own candidates to provincial and district leadership positions. The party aims to complete its organizational structure in Eastern and Southeastern provinces by the end of next month, with its first convention planned for October.
