South Korean communities prepare for Chuseok with charity and sanitation efforts

Various regions across South Korea are implementing community support and sanitation measures in preparation for the Chuseok holiday.

In Suseo-dong and Yongin, local organizations, religious institutions, medical clinics, and private donors are providing food, rice, and gift sets to hundreds of vulnerable households, including the elderly and people with disabilities. Contributions include meat sets, groceries, and monetary donations to ensure a stable holiday for those in need.

In Seoul, local districts such as Gangdong-gu have launched environmental cleanup initiatives to maintain cleanliness in alleys and public spaces. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has also established 26 cleaning situation rooms and deployed over 10,000 environmental workers to manage waste collection and respond to citizen complaints during the holiday period. Residents are advised to check specific waste discharge schedules, as collection dates vary by district during the break.
