Yiaga Africa Deploys 332 Observers for Osun State Governorship Election, Warns of Violence

Civil society group Yiaga Africa announced it will deploy 300 stationary observers and 32 roving observers across Osun State’s 30 local government areas for the August 15 governorship election. The deployment uses the organisation’s Sample‑Based Observation (SBO) methodology, with observers stationed at randomly selected polling units to independently verify that votes cast match the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Board member Chief Ezenwa Nwagwu warned that the poll faces risks of voter inducement—alleged cash transfers of about N10,000 to prospective voters—and recurring political violence. He called on political parties, candidates, security agencies, civil society and voters to work together to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process, and urged INEC to intensify voter education throughout the state.
