Yogi Adityanath challenges Akhilesh Yadav to contest Ayodhya elections

Political tensions in Uttar Pradesh have escalated following a direct electoral challenge between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav. After Yadav suggested that Adityanath should contest the 2027 Assembly elections from the temple town of Ayodhya, Adityanath accepted the suggestion and issued a counter-challenge, inviting Yadav to file his nomination from the same constituency for a face-to-face contest.

Yadav responded to the challenge via social media, stating that a “gust of wind will come and sweep away all arrogance” and criticizing the administration regarding the alleged theft of offerings and donations in Ayodhya. He also accused the government of injustice following the arrest of students and youth during protests in Delhi regarding the Election Commission.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh ministers Om Prakash Rajbhar and Daya Shankar Singh have urged Yadav to accept the challenge to prove his political strength. Rajbhar also criticized the SP's past record on law and order, while Adityanath emphasized his commitment to the development of Ayodhya, asserting that his visits are focused on progress rather than political maneuvering.
