Shohei Ohtani’s knee issue and Dodgers’ losing streak dominate MLB updates
Shohei Ohtani missed the July 30 game against the Seattle Mariners after reporting left‑knee tightness, prompting the Los Angeles Dodgers to sit him out. He returned the next day as the designated hitter against the Boston Red Sox, hitting a 112 mph, 24‑inch two‑run home run and extending his hitting streak to eight consecutive games. Despite Ohtani’s contribution, the Dodgers recorded their season‑worst five‑game losing streak by August 5, falling 4‑9 to the Red Sox and continuing to lose the following two games.
Other MLB news includes Dodgers left‑hander Blake Snell completing his final rehab outing and being slated to rejoin the rotation next week, while right‑hander Tyler Glasnow also progressed, pitching two innings with only 16 pitches and targeting a three‑inning outing soon. In Japan, DeNA rookie shortstop Miyashita Asahi debuted for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, delivering a two‑run double and a one‑turn throw that helped secure an out. Meanwhile, former Seibu pitcher Jeffery Yan made a splash in his MLB debut for the Mets with a flamboyant three‑strikeout celebration that drew league‑wide attention.
