Yongin Special City restarts Bandabi Sports Center construction plan
Yongin Special City is relaunching its plan to construct the Bandabi Sports Center after the project's public property management plan was rejected by the city council three times. To overcome this impasse, the city held a communication meeting with disability sports organizations and stakeholders to incorporate user feedback into the facility's design.
Key requests from disability advocacy groups included ensuring adequate shower and changing facilities, establishing flexible operating hours to balance use between disabled and non-disabled citizens, and improving transportation through shuttle services and optimized access routes to the Yongin Mir Stadium site. The city has committed to reflecting these needs in the design, including features like increased shower fixtures and variable seating in the multi-purpose gym.
The proposed 23,700 square meter facility, located at the Yongin Mir Stadium temporary parking lot, has already secured 4 billion won in national funds through a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism contest. The city plans to resubmit the project to the Yongin City Council during its September extraordinary session.
