York City authorities charge juveniles after assault on students
Three female juveniles have been charged with crimes ranging from felony riot to misdemeanor simple assault, harassment, and defiant trespass following a violent attack near York College of Pennsylvania. The incident occurred in the early morning of September 12 in the West Jackson Street area when a group of individuals, gathered for an illegal street race, allegedly assaulted several female students at an off-campus residence.
Victims reported being punched, kicked, maced, and dragged by their hair, with some losing consciousness during the melee. York County District Attorney Tim Barker stated that while the suspects will be prosecuted through the juvenile court system, they will face “serious consequences.”
In response to the incident, York Mayor Sandie Walker announced a 30-day public safety action plan aimed at strengthening accountability and collaboration in the area. Local authorities noted that while York College Campus Safety was on-scene, city police response was delayed because officers were assisting a SWAT team with a separate barricaded suspect incident elsewhere in the city.
