Yorkutime community receives clean water via new borehole

Residents of Yorkutime in the North Tongu District of Ghana’s Volta Region have gained access to clean and reliable drinking water following the installation of a mechanised borehole. For years, the community relied on a dugout originally designed for cattle, which provided greenish, polluted water that residents had to share with livestock. During dry seasons, some community members were forced to travel approximately 10 kilometres by motorcycle to find water.

The project was led by Senyo Success Gbormittah and his team at Hope for Ghana, in partnership with Ingoma Living Waters. Gbormittah, a recipient of the 2026 JoyNews Impact Maker Award in the Education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) category, described the intervention as a major transformation for the community, noting that the reliance on contaminated water is now a thing of the past.
