Water infrastructure development in rural Ghana
Overview
Rural communities in Ghana are gaining improved access to potable water through the installation of new mechanised boreholes.
In the Volta Region, the Yorkutime community in the North Tongu District transitioned from using a polluted dugout shared with livestock to a reliable water source. This project was led by Senyo Success Gbormittah of Hope for Ghana in partnership with Ingoma Living Waters.
Further infrastructure developments have been reported in the Ashanti Region, where the non-profit WellsForAll completed a borehole in Mantukwa featuring an electric submersible pump and a 3,000-litre storage tank. Additionally, in the Navrongo Central constituency, Member of Parliament Simon Aworigo facilitated the drilling of three boreholes in Biu-Jaago, Kologo-Awunyabisi, and Naaga-Nyanbisiya to address seasonal water scarcity.
