Youssef Tazi, 15‑year‑old Moroccan climber, scales 6,250 m Kang Yatse II

Fifteen‑year‑old Moroccan alpinist Youssef Tazi reached the 6,250‑metre summit of Kang Yatse II in the Indian Himalaya without supplemental oxygen. The ascent, part of his "Road to Everest 2028" program, began at 00:18 from a base camp at 5,070 m in the Markha Valley, Ladakh, and took 12 hours 21 minutes.

The climb was undertaken in harsh conditions, with temperatures dropping to –10 °C, dense fog and snow covering much of the route. Thirteen of the 29‑member expedition withdrew, while sixteen climbers, led by Tazi’s team, reached the summit, making him the youngest Moroccan, African and Arab to attain that altitude.

Tazi, who has previously summited more than fifty peaks in Morocco and notable mountains such as Ararat, Kilimanjaro and El brus, also serves as a UNICEF youth advocate, promoting sport, education, health and environmental protection among children and young people. He aims to attempt Everest in 2028.
