Youth Music Competitions Boost Young Talent in Germany and Austria
The 63rd Bundeswettbewerb Jugend musiziert took place in late May in Munich and Regensburg, drawing nearly 2,000 participants from 17 nations. Two musicians from the Bayreuth‑Kulmbach region earned top honors: 15‑year‑old harpist Maja Rieger received a first‑place prize with a perfect score, repeating her 2023 success, while 18‑year‑old oboist Maya Häublein won first place with her woodwind trio. Both continue their studies at prominent music schools.
In Eisenstadt, Austria, the final of the Prima la musica youth music competition is underway, featuring about 1,100 young musicians from Austria, Liechtenstein and South Tyrol. The event is attracting roughly 8,000 visitors, providing a significant boost to local hospitality businesses. Organisers praised the high artistic level and noted that extending evening food options could further improve the experience. The competition runs until 6 June.
