Youth parliamentary programs engage students across Brazil
Student representatives in Brazil are participating in various youth parliamentary programs designed to foster civic engagement and understanding of legislative processes.
In Rio Grande do Sul, child councilors from Campo Bom visited the Palácio Piratini and the State Legislative Assembly in Porto Alegre. The visit aimed to demonstrate the separation of powers and provide students with a firsthand look at the state's executive and legislative headquarters. During the visit, students explored historical halls and participated in a simulated vote using electronic ballot boxes.
In Minas Gerais, more than 200 students gathered at the Federal University of Viçosa for the Regional Plenary of the Parlamento Jovem Minas 2026. Representing 11 municipalities, participants discussed and voted on proposals developed during municipal stages. Four approved proposals will advance to the State Plenary at the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte. The group also selected ‘Protection of diversity and prevention of discriminatory violence’ as the suggested theme for the 2027 edition.
