YPF implements electric fracturing in Vaca Muerta
YPF has implemented the first electric fracturing set in Argentina to accelerate shale production in the Vaca Muerta formation. This technological shift replaces traditional internal combustion engines powered by diesel with electric power generated on-site using residual natural gas.
Industry analysts expect this move to significantly reduce operating costs per barrel and improve profitability margins for unconventional blocks, bringing the region's efficiency closer to developments in the United States. The transition is also expected to decrease environmental impact and reduce downtime by providing more consistent pumping power.
