Spain and Argentina face fuel price shifts amid rising costs

In Spain, the government has announced the return of fuel subsidies to combat rising energy costs. Starting October 1, 2026, a 20-cent per liter discount will be applied to gasoline and diesel. This relief will decrease progressively to 13 cents in November and 6 cents in December. A safeguard clause is included: if fuel prices rise by more than 15%, the discount will automatically revert to the full 20 cents.

Simultaneously, Spanish agricultural data shows a widening gap between production costs and income. In June 2026, farmers and ranchers received 9.87% less for their products compared to the previous year, while production costs rose by 3.30%. Significant cost increases were noted in fuels (+39.06%) and fertilizers (+21.25%).

In Argentina, the state-owned oil company YPF has implemented a 1% price increase across all fuel types. This adjustment follows rising international crude prices, specifically the Brent barrel exceeding $104. YPF continues to use a 'micropricing' system to manage local price variations based on regional demand and competition.
