YPF projects 90,000 new jobs in Vaca Muerta by 2029

YPF chief executive Horacio Marín announced that the Vaca Muerta shale development is expected to generate about 90,000 new jobs by 2029. Around 40,000 positions will be linked to oil and gas operations and another 50,000 to infrastructure projects such as pipelines, processing plants and related construction.

The company outlined a US$130 billion investment plan for the next five years (2026‑2030) to expand production and build the necessary infrastructure, with most spending directed to Neuquén province where Vaca Muerta is located. Production has recently hit a record of 903,700 barrels per day, accounting for roughly 69% of Argentina’s total oil output.

To meet the labour demand, YPF created a training institute capable of preparing up to 3,000 workers annually and aims to train 15,000 new operators over the five‑year period. The initiative is presented as a major driver of employment and economic growth for the country.
