YPF announces 1% fuel price increase in Argentina

YPF has announced an average price increase of 1% for all its fuels, including gasoline and diesel, effective from midnight this Saturday. The adjustment follows a period of price stability implemented since April and is driven by rising international crude oil prices, with Brent exceeding US$104 per barrel and WTI around US$93, largely due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The company is utilizing a “buffer” mechanism to mitigate the immediate impact of global market volatility on local consumers. Additionally, YPF will continue its “micropricing” system, allowing for specific price adjustments based on regional demand, competition, supply, and time slots to maintain commercial efficiency.

This increase is notably lower than those implemented by private competitors such as Shell, Axion, and Puma, which saw hikes ranging between 2% and 5%. Meanwhile, domestic fuel sales in Argentina have faced challenges, recording a 2.19% year-on-year decline in August, marking the seventh consecutive month of contraction.
