Ypsonas school infrastructure projects face delays
Cyprus Minister of Education Athina Michailidou has provided updates regarding the status of school infrastructure projects in the Ypsonas and Kourion Municipality areas. The construction of a new Ypsonas Gymnasium is currently in the study stage, but progress is pending the identification of a suitable construction site by the Department of Town Planning and Housing.
The proposal for a new Lyceum in the region is in an even earlier stage, as the Directorate of Secondary General Education must first assess the necessity of the project. However, other local projects are advancing; the construction of the D' Kindergarten and Primary School of Ypsonas has been included in the 2027-2029 Medium-Term Fiscal Framework, with an architectural competition expected soon. Additionally, the construction of the A' Public and Community Kindergarten of Ypsonas is underway with €1.3 million in funding.
To address school safety and maintenance, the Ministry has allocated an additional €800,000 to the West Limassol School Board for the improvement of school buildings and alternative school facilities.
