Ysabel Heredia Vallejo surrenders in Senasa corruption probe

Gastroenterologist Ysabel Heredia Vallejo has surrendered to authorities to face charges related to a corruption scheme involving the National Health Insurance (Senasa) in the Dominican Republic. The alleged fraud, which has impacted Senasa by more than 41 million pesos, involved submitting claims for specialized medical procedures, such as colonoscopies and endoscopies, that were never actually performed on affiliates.

Heredia Vallejo is one of 26 individuals implicated in the scheme. The Public Ministry is seeking 18 months of preventive detention and has requested that the case be declared complex. The defendants face various charges, including conspiracy, bribery, fraud against the Dominican state, embezzlement, falsification, and money laundering.

The investigation is reportedly linked to Ángel Luis Guzmán Vásquez, identified as the alleged leader of this specific line of investigation.
