YSRCP accuses Andhra Pradesh government of nutrition scheme corruption
The YSRCP has accused the TDP-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh of widespread corruption regarding nutrition schemes intended for infants, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Spokesperson Putta Siva Shankar Reddy alleged that politically connected syndicates are supplying underweight eggs to Anganwadi centres. While tender rules require eggs to weigh between 50 and 70 grams, the party claims suppliers are providing low-quality eggs weighing only 30 to 40 grams. These eggs are reportedly sourced cheaply from outside the state, while suppliers charge rates exceeding those set by the National Egg Coordination Committee.
Additionally, the YSRCP alleged a nearly Rs 40 crore scam involving the Balasanjeevani kit, claiming the price was increased from Rs 271 to Rs 446. The party also raised concerns regarding a potential Rs 1,200-crore scam in the supply of Balamrutham nutrition powder, alleging that tender conditions were altered to favor inexperienced contractors. The YSRCP has demanded the prosecution of non-compliant contractors and the cancellation of Balamrutham tenders to protect the health of millions of mothers and children.
