Yucalpetén II bridge reconstruction causes road closures in Progreso

The Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT) has initiated major reconstruction works on the Yucalpetén II bridge in Progreso, Yucatán. The project involves the demolition of the slab, parapets, beams, and level banks, followed by structural reinforcement and the installation of 10 new beams.

Due to these works, the section of the road from the distributor at kilometer 32.5 of the Mérida-Progreso highway to the Yucalpetén entrance is closed. For the duration of the intervention, which is expected to last approximately eight weeks, motorists traveling toward coastal areas such as Yucalpetén, Chelem, and Chuburná Puerto are advised to use an alternative route through the port of Progreso.

As of mid-October, the reconstruction of the bridge connecting the lagoon to the rowing and canoeing track has reached 90% completion. Authorities have announced that the lane heading toward Mérida is scheduled to reopen to traffic on Monday, October 19, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., following the use of fast-drying materials for the platform casting.
