Yucatán and Belizean businesses form trade and manufacturing alliances
Business leaders from the Yucatán Peninsula and Belize have reached agreements to boost bilateral trade through increased exports, new manufacturing projects in Belize, and strategic agricultural partnerships. According to Osmany Palomo Hoil, president of Coparmex, the initiative includes exporting construction materials, chemicals, textiles, and footwear. To optimize logistics, the strategy involves moving Mexican raw materials to strategic areas in Belize, such as Corozal, to manufacture goods for local consumption and re-export to Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
In a separate effort to bolster regional competitiveness, public, academic, and business sectors in Yucatán have launched the Exporta360 Diploma in Foreign Trade. This collaborative program between the Secretariat of Economy and Labor of Yucatán (SETY), the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), COMCE Yucatán, and CANACINTRA Yucatán aims to equip local companies with the skills needed for international expansion. The curriculum covers supply chain logistics, customs regulations, and market analysis, coinciding with infrastructure improvements like the expansion of the Deepwater Port of Progreso.
