ASF launches nationwide audit overhaul and files 21 corruption complaints in Mexico

The Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) has signed coordination agreements with state audit bodies in Puebla, the State of Mexico and Chihuahua, creating a permanent framework for reviewing federal funds in all 217 municipalities of Puebla and extending oversight to every municipality nationwide. Under the new model the ASF will replace isolated sector audits with 100 integrated audits for the 2025 public‑account cycle, covering legal, financial, performance and budgeting aspects across the three levels of government.

In its first 100 days, the ASF presented 21 criminal complaints to the Fiscalía General de la República, alleging damage to the treasury of more than 600 million pesos and opening 31 investigative files and 30 administrative‑responsibility proceedings involving officials at federal, state and municipal levels. The agency also reported that the state of Hidalgo received a clean audit with no economic or administrative observations, while the municipality of Jilotzingo in Puebla faced observations amounting to 72 million pesos.

Opposition deputies have called on the ASF to safeguard its independence and to apply its new powers impartially, especially concerning large projects such as the Tren Interoceánico. The ASF plans to carry out 2,244 audits this year, covering all 32 states, 2,478 municipalities and over 29,700 federal transfers, aiming to prevent irregularities and recover misallocated resources.
