Yucatán heat wave and storm forecast through July 12

Meteorological services warn that the Yucatán Peninsula will experience extreme heat through early July, with daytime temperatures reaching 40‑42 °C in Mérida and surrounding municipalities and a UV index of 9‑10. Authorities urge residents to stay hydrated, use sunscreen of at least SPF 30, wear light clothing and limit outdoor activity between 11:00 and 16:00.

At the same time, a trough and two tropical waves will trigger strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms across Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo. Forecasts call for heavy rain, intense lightning, gusts up to 45 km/h and possible flash flooding and road‑way en‑carcements. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, keep headlights on, maintain safe distances and avoid crossing flooded roads. Local civil‑protection agencies will issue alerts as conditions evolve.
