Yucatán faces scattered storms and heat up to 40 °C this weekend

A low‑pressure trough, known locally as a “vaguada,” interacting with a larger system over the Gulf of Mexico will bring scattered moderate thunderstorms to the Yucatán Peninsula on Saturday and Sunday. The storms are expected to produce brief heavy rain (5‑25 mm), possible hail and gusty winds of 15‑45 km/h, especially across the states of Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo.

Temperatures will remain high, with daytime highs ranging from 31 °C to 38 °C and isolated peaks near 40 °C, while night‑time lows stay in the mid‑20s. The regional hydrometeorological service advises residents to stay alert for sudden wind bursts, isolated hail and localized flooding, and to take usual heat‑precaution measures such as staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged sun exposure.
